Leona Lewis Wants to duet with Coldplay

Published by mellers84 under Uncategorized Edit This

Leona Lewis is looking to duet with Coldplay on her sophomore album, according to Times Now out of India. Lewis wants the follow-up to her breakthrough album, Spirit, to have more of a rock feel.  Her latest number one single is a cover of Snow Patrol’s “Run.”

It is likely Chris Martin would be interested as well in the project.  Martin told London’s The Daily Mirror, “Leona is phenomenal. She is world class, that girl. We saw her singing in L.A. - she’s as good as anybody and I’ve got nothing but respect for her.”

Coldplay and Lewis are in the same music-god categories. Both artists have been nominated for multiple Grammies. They both also topped the iTunes bestseller list in America for 2008. Lewis’ debut song, “Bleeding Love” sold the most copies just ahead of Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida.”

Martin also admitted his adoration for Girls Aloud. Martin said, “Girls Aloud are my favourite girls in the world, aside from my wife and daughter, of course!”  Hmm… who would have ever guessed Martin had such a love for cheesy pop music? leona-lewis.jpg

A Simple Gesture of Concert Ettiquette… put Your Camera Down and Listen… Enjoy.

Published by mellers84 under Uncategorized Edit This

Technology has made it possible to capture any moment on film or video.  There is no way for venues to completely stop people from taking pictures at shows…. Even bootlegs.  My BlackJack II takes better video and pictures than my digital camera. When you look in the crowd you can tell the popular songs because everyone has their phones thrown in the air calling their best friend or recording it for the memory.

When I was a teeny bopper traveling from city to city to catch the Backstreet Boys I hated the signs at the door that said no camera allowed. I thought it was a money thing. The management wanted to make every penny they could off of their pretty faces.  It upset me. I tucked my camera in my bra knowing security couldn’t frisk me there. I took pictures… great pictures.
Not until I started going to Brand New shows did it ever make sense the true purpose behind it. Jesse Lacey, the lead singer of Brand New, is notorious for stopping the show and asking people not to snap pictures of him and/or the other performers during the show. People get upset and still do it regardless what he wants. I understand people pay to get in and want their money worth- even if it is capturing that moment forever.
People cross the line though. I’m sure Jesse Lacey wouldn’t mind if you snapped one picture of the band for proof you were there. However, for some reason, many fans feel the need to stand their the entire show snapping 1,000 pictures of Lacey and recording the entire show. His argument seems simple- sit back and enjoy what he does. If you are taking pictures not only are you blocking the view for other people around you, but you ’re not there listening to the music. It’s obvious- you can’t be 100% into music if you’re more concerned about taking the best picture from the show.
So I wish people like this Much Music blogger would consider this before making claims that his intentions are ridiculous .

Alex James Over Pop Music

Published by mellers84 under Uncategorized Edit This

alexjames.jpg

Alex James told Q Radio he is over pop music. In a recent interview he said, ” “I was in a band it’s what I did and I guess there is a sort of part of you that wants to still be the Arctic Monkeys or keep thinking that pop music is cool. But there comes a point when you have to throw away your jeans and trainers and start admitting to yourself you’re kinda too old for Lily Allen.”

James has reunited with former bandmates Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon and Dave Rowntree to form the older, more mature version of Blur.

If James, 40, is too old for pop music, hopefully his bandmates feel the same. Blur were at the top of their game when Britpop was THE music in the laste 90’s, early 2000’s.  Tensions in the band between Coxon and the others led to their hiatus after the release of 2003’s “Think Tank.”

The band is set to play a set of shows at London’s Hyde Park in July 2009. The shows sold out in minutes.

Regardless the problem with age, James should keep fans in mind. When bands reunite and recreate themselves if often when fans disregard the band. Imagine going to see Blur … minus “Song 2.”

My Muse

Published by mellers84 under Uncategorized Edit This

I have trouble lately in finding inspiration. There is something blocking my mind that I can’t quite get around, it makes it hard for me to write anything I find to be quality work.

Today that changed.

I write music (obviously) and travel pieces. I find these rewarding, interesting and my passion.  While researching an article about Cincinnati I stopped by the Cincinnati Art Museum. I put on my Ipod as I entered the building and decided on Brand New: The Devil and God are Raging in me.

There is something about the combination of the eerie strings, Jesse Lacey’s passion in his voice, the tension and relaxation varying from each part and lyrics that sparked something in me.  I feel unstoppable and confident in this is what I want and need to do.

I’m positive I’m not the only one out there. I want to share them with everyone. Maybe the artistic value will spark something in you, too.

I’ve seen Jesse Lacey solo twice and with the entire band twice. His passion for what he does is how I want to feel about my writing. I want to do it regardless if people read it or like what I have to say. I think this is something well all need to remember.

At least when I meet him next time I will have something to say aside from “What difficulty do you play Guitar Hero or Rock Band on?”

Hello to The Enemy!

Published by mellers84 under Uncategorized Edit This

This weekend was full of research, but the fun kind. NEW BANDS RESEARCH! In my journeys throughout the Web I stumbled upon The Enemy.

The Enemy are currently recording their follow-up to their debut, “We’ll live and die in These Towns.” The album is set to be released in April 2009. The band is working with producer Mike Crossey of Arctic Monkey, Razorlight and The Zutons fame.

The band are preparing to embark on their largest headlining tour. The 22 date tour journeys across the United Kingdom in March and April. They will then be one of the opening acts on Oasis’ highly anticipated summer stadium tour.

The Enemy have gained much recognition as NME and Q’s Best New Band. They also won’s XFM’s Best Debut Album award. “We’ll Live and die in These Towns” went directly to number one on the UK charts upon release.

Until then.. enjoy “This Song.”

Paul McCartney Ever Present Past

Published by mellers84 under Uncategorized Edit This

This isn’t normally the way I roll… however, I have to make this exception.

Today I caught the end of Paul McCartney’s BBC Electric Prom on a station I’m totally jealous my parents have on their digital cable. At the end they showed the video for his song, “Ever Present Past.”

This song and video are absolutely amazing! There’s something about this upbeat early Beatles-esque song that makes me happy. Maybe it’s the fact it sounds like a poppy rock ‘n roll song. Maybe it’s the fact this man who is old enough to my grandpa is rocking out, dancing and looking like a dork all while not caring!

Sir Paul looks like he’s having so much fun and I am, too just listening. I had to share it with all of you.
