Pete Doherty Clean for the new Year?

Published by mellers84 at 7:42 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Former addict Alex James came out and told London’s Mirror what we’ve all been thinking, “I’d be surprised if Pete Doherty and Amy Winehouse both live to see the decade out. You know, it’s not funny.” James knows from experience it is up to the people around them to make them stop.

Doherty is opting for a change. His resolution for the new year is to be drug free. ““I’m sick of going around in circles. I’m clean now and I’m going to stay that way this year – apart from the fags and booze,” he told the Daily Star.

I’m hoping for the best, but let’s face it… it sounds like the same meaningless resolution I made to lose 15 pounds by March.  Even I know from watching Celebrity Rehab the right change would be to rid yourself from all of it (the drugs, the booze and the fags).   Doherty claims to be clean now, but just two weeks ago (December 20) he cancelled a set of gigs in London due to “an arm injury.” Excuse my hesitation to believe this, but if he had an “arm injury” I’m curious why the show was cancelled merely an hour before performance.

Doherty spent 29 days in jail last year for drug use, and bookies are putting money on him, Amy Winehouse or George Michael being the first UK celebrities arrested in 2009.

The best thing for Doherty is to ditch his drug troubled friends. I’ll be the first to admit I’m team Doherty, although I have little faith that it will happen his death would be a tragedy for the music business.

Let’s make a deal Pete, if you do it, I’ll do it.
